Hello CWDGer's. I am considering a trip to the Valley later this year, and am trying to find some reading material. One subject is the incidents between Custer and Mosby that lead to the hangings in Front Royal. I have found one book, 'Custer and the Front Royal executions of 1864' by Jay W Simpson. Can anyone recommend this book or another that explains fairly the circumstances that led to this kind of warfare?

Regards, Mitch.

The Burning: Sheridan's Devastation of the Shenandoah by John Heatwole. One story I will never forget is how Union Cavalry picked up a dim witted man with a squirrel rifle. The locals pleaded for his life saying he was mentally slow and wasn't a bushwacker. The Yankees hung him anyway.
